Roofing Contractor Software in Rhode Island

Rhode Island registers every contractor, and the line is $500. Any residential job at that or above takes a registration from the Contractors' Registration and Licensing Board. Before it comes a five-hour course on codes, contracts, business practice, and safety, and behind it sit $500,000 in general liability coverage naming the board and workers' comp if there are employees. A roofer who works only commercial buildings skips the course. Everyone else sits through it, and the board's list is the first thing a careful homeowner checks.

The contract runs on the door-to-door sales law. A roof sold at the kitchen table can be canceled until midnight of the third day after signing, Sundays and postal holidays excluded, by registered or certified mail. A contract that fails the law's requirements has to give the deposit back within 20 days of a cancellation. The contractors' law adds a separate three-day right for elderly homeowners on any in-home solicitation, absent an emergency. Rhode Island has no deductible statute of its own, so a roof on a claim runs on the general fraud and consumer protection laws.

Water is the disaster here. In March 2010 the state got 15 inches of rain in a month, a record. On March 31 the Pawtuxet River at Cranston crested at 20.79 feet, more than five feet above a record it had set ten days earlier. The Warwick Mall flooded, Interstate 95 closed, and it was the worst flooding in more than 200 years. Sandy came ashore on October 29, 2012 with 15-foot waves that buried Atlantic Avenue in Misquamicut in sand. It damaged about 100 homes in Westerly and left flood claims of more than $31 million in the state. The nor'easters of January and March 2018 flooded the coast again. Ice dams form on the state's old roofs every winter.

The 2021 residential code, in the Rhode Island edition, has been mandatory for every permit since March 1, 2026, and the local building official enforces it. The housing stock is among the oldest in the country, with a median home age of 59 years. The triple-deckers of Providence, Pawtucket, and Woonsocket are their own trade. The volume is in Cranston, Warwick, Cumberland, and Lincoln, in the East Bay towns of Barrington and Bristol, and in South County from Narragansett to Westerly. The salt air there shortens the life of every fastener.
