What gutter replacement costs in Michigan

Gutters are priced by the linear foot, and a home needs roughly 110 feet of gutter for every 1,000 square feet of footprint, more for a second story. Five-inch aluminum is the standard; six-inch handles the heavy rain Michigan gets in a thunderstorm; steel and copper cost more and last longer.

Gutter guards add a per-foot cost and are worth it under trees. Downspouts, end caps and miters are part of a seamless gutter quote, so a per-foot price from a pro already includes them.

For a two-story home of about 2,000 sq ft with a hip roof, installed:

  • 5" aluminum $2,650 to $3,800
  • 6" aluminum $3,200 to $4,700
  • Steel $3,800 to $5,250
  • Copper $8,750 to $13,150

What moves the price

Linear feet
Roughly 110 feet per 1,000 square feet of footprint, and a second story adds about a quarter more for the extra runs and the height.
Size
Five-inch is standard. Six-inch carries 40 percent more water and is the better choice under a big roof or a lot of trees.
Material
Aluminum is the everyday choice. Steel takes a ladder better; copper is a lifetime product and priced like one.
Guards
Adds a per-foot cost on top of the gutter. Pays for itself in cleanings under maple and oak.
Fascia and soffit
Rotted fascia behind the old gutter has to be replaced before new gutter can hang on it. Ask how it's priced.

Questions homeowners ask

How much do new gutters cost in Michigan?

For a two-story home of about 2,000 sq ft with a hip roof, 5-inch aluminum runs $2,650 to $3,800 installed and 6-inch $3,200 to $4,700. Steel is $3,800 to $5,250 and copper $8,750 to $13,150. Guards add a per-foot cost.

Five-inch or six-inch gutters?

Five-inch handles most Michigan homes. Six-inch carries about 40 percent more water and is the better choice under a steep or large roof, or where downspouts can't be added.

Are gutter guards worth it?

Under trees, yes. They stop the twice-a-year cleaning and the ice dams that clogged gutters cause. In the open they're a convenience, not a need.

What's included in a seamless gutter quote?

The gutter run to length on site, hangers, downspouts, elbows, end caps and miters. Fascia repair and guards are priced separately.

How long do gutters last?

Aluminum 20 years or more, steel longer with upkeep, copper the life of the house. Michigan's ice is what ends them early, which is why hangers every two feet matter.
