Window Replacement Contractor Software in Indiana

Hamilton County is where a lot of Indiana's window work is going to come from for the next ten years. Carmel, Fishers, Westfield, and Noblesville were built out in waves starting in the 1990s, and the builder-grade vinyl windows in the earliest houses are fogging, sticking, and losing their seals. Those are neighborhoods where every house has thirty windows and a homeowner who knows what the neighbor paid. The older stock in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, and Evansville is the opposite job, with original wood windows and openings that were never square.

Indiana straddles two ENERGY STAR climate zones. The northern part of the state is in the Northern zone and the rest is North-Central, and the U-factor a window needs to qualify is different in each. Fort Wayne and Indianapolis are on opposite sides of that line, so a window shop that serves both needs to know which spec applies to which address before quoting a rebate.

There is no state license for window installation. Indianapolis and Marion County cover it under the general contractor license from the Department of Business and Neighborhood Services. In Fort Wayne and Allen County the roofing-only license does not cover windows, so a company that does both carries two. Other cities and counties set their own rules, and a few require nothing at all.

The contract is where the state steps in. Under the Home Improvement Contracts Act, any job over $150 needs a written contract with the names and addresses of both parties, a description of the work, the price, and an estimated start and completion date. Custom windows run four to eight weeks from order to delivery, and the completion date in the contract has to allow for that. A date that assumes the windows will show up early is a date that gets missed.
