Most of the houses in Oklahoma City and Tulsa are brick on the ground floor, so siding here is gables, second stories, the older frame houses in the near-in neighborhoods, and the newer subdivisions where the builder put fiber cement on the front and vinyl on the sides. That shapes the market. A siding company in Edmond or Broken Arrow does a lot of partial jobs, and a partial job lives or dies on matching what is already there.

Hail and wind put siding on claims. Oklahoma City and Tulsa sit in one of the most hail-prone corridors in the country, and a storm that dents the roof cracks vinyl on the north and west walls. Oklahoma's deductible law covers roofing contractors only, so siding on a claim runs on ordinary contract rules. There is no state license for siding. The Construction Industries Board licenses electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work and registers roofers, and everything else belongs to the cities. Oklahoma City requires contractors to register before pulling permits, with at least $50,000 in general liability insurance and workers' comp coverage for residential building contractors. Tulsa registers contractors through its permit center. The season runs nearly all year, and it is the July heat rather than the January cold that stops a crew.
