New Jersey's siding market is the Cape Cods and split-levels of the 1950s and 1960s, and there are hundreds of thousands of them. A siding company registers with the Division of Consumer Affairs every year, carries $500,000 per occurrence in liability coverage, and puts the registration number on every contract and every ad. Any job over $500 takes a written contract with the price, the work and materials, the dates, the insurance certificate, and any warranty, and two ten-point bold notices, one for the three business days the homeowner has to cancel after receiving a copy.

The Uniform Construction Code applies statewide with no local amendments, and every municipality's construction office inspects a re-side. The season runs from April into November. Vinyl gets brittle below freezing, and the New Jersey winter stops a crew for months.
