Hail is what drives the calls. The same storms that put roofs on the phone crack vinyl on the north and west walls, and an adjuster who writes for the roof often writes for two elevations of siding as well. The homeowner then asks what it would cost to do the other two so the colors match, and that conversation is where a good share of the year's siding margin lives. When a siding job is part of a claim that includes the roof, the roofing side of the company is working under the state's roofing registration and its contract rules, including the ban on rebating the deductible.

Wind is the other Kansas problem. The plains wind works loose panels off houses all winter, and the spring repair calls are for siding that is still on the house but flapping at the corners. Fastening and the J-channel at the corners get more attention here than they do in calmer states.

Johnson County homeowners associations write the spec. Material, color, and in some subdivisions the brand are in the covenants, and a bid that does not match gets rejected after the material is ordered. Wichita and Topeka are older stock, 1950s to 1970s ranches, where the job is more often a full replacement over whatever the sheathing turns out to be.
