The floods of March 2010 are the reason a Rhode Island gutter company talks about where the water goes. Fifteen inches of rain fell that month, a record, and the Pawtuxet River at Cranston crested at 20.79 feet on March 31, five feet above a record it had set ten days earlier. A gutter does not stop that. The trees keep the work coming. The oaks and maples fill gutters in a few weeks each fall, and the pitch pines of South County drop needles all year that slide through guards made for leaves. Seamless aluminum in five and six inch K-style is nearly all of the residential work, formed on site from coil, and the work runs from April into November.

Rhode Island registers every contractor at $500. A gutter company carries a registration from the Contractors' Registration and Licensing Board, with a five-hour course before it and $500,000 in liability coverage naming the board behind it. A sale made in the home can be canceled until midnight of the third day after signing by registered or certified mail. The 2021 residential code has been mandatory for every permit since March 1, 2026, and the local building official enforces it.
