A lot of houses in Phoenix have no gutters at all, and the monsoon is why the rest do. Phoenix gets about eight inches of rain a year and Tucson about twelve, and most of it comes between June and September in thunderstorms that put an inch on a roof in an hour. The hailstorm of October 5, 2010 did $2.7 billion in insured damage across the Valley, and Arizona's storm-repair law gives the owner 72 hours to cancel after the insurer denies the claim. The work runs all year, and the summer crews start at dawn.
