Aluminum gutters show hail. After a storm in Ohio, the dents along the front face of a gutter are one of the first things an adjuster looks for, and a gutter company that knows how to document them gets a lot of work off the back of roof claims. The hail belt runs through the middle and west of the state, from Cincinnati and Dayton up through Columbus toward Toledo, and every spring some part of it gets hit.

The northeast has a different problem. The snowbelt counties east of Cleveland, out toward Geauga and Ashtabula, get lake-effect snow that piles onto gutters and freezes solid. Ice pulls hangers loose, and when the gutter is full of ice the meltwater backs up under the shingles. Gutter contractors fall under Ohio's Home Improvement Contractor Registration, which started January 1, 2026. Repair or remodeling work on a house with one to three units means registering with the Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board, with a background check, a $25,000 bond, $500,000 in liability coverage, and a workers' comp certificate. Most gutter jobs come in under the $25,000 line where Ohio's ten percent deposit cap kicks in, but a company that also does roofing crosses it on a regular basis.
